Took a few weeks off of my normal routines to shake things up and I’m happy to say it’s been a really nice. Especially the last 10 days or so:
- Goofed around with my pals Adam and Kevin, doing some world building for a new RPG campaign they are starting up later this month – using the “Scum & Villainy” system. I’m already getting excited about just playing and doing some drawings for this new thing.
- Spent the long Labor Day weekend in South Carolina visiting my in-laws and had a really nice quiet trip. Spent a few days by the ocean, saw a shore fisherman pull a 5 foot Blacktip shark out of the water, had a footlong chili-dog at Sam’s Corner in Garden City and wings at Fat Jacks in Surfside.
- Football started again (premier league and college) and I’m looking forward to visiting both Ann Arbor and Blacksburg for a couple games in October. I’d love to plan a trip to watch Leeds United play but that’s for the future.
- And lastly, my old friend Ryan and I started kicking around the idea of buying some land together on a mountain somewhere to build a little camp for getting away.
Anyway, things are good. The world is the world and sometimes it can really suck but it’s also full of good things and sometimes we (I) need to get out of our heads and let those good things in.
“To sit alone or with a few friends, half-drunk under a full moon, you just understand how lucky you are; it’s a story you can’t tell. It’s a story you almost by definition, can’t share. I’ve learned in real time to look at those things and realize: I just had a really good moment.” Anthony Bourdain
