More insanity happening this week in the world. Sort of feels like we are living in bizarre movie plot (“Wag the Dog” maybe?) but what do I know….I’ve been really busy at work and have projects and chores to get back to. So, I spent a little time cleaning up a few things here on the webpage (created my 2026 Reads page) and straightened up my desk in the shed. Figure I will try to stay positive and share 4 good things from my week*.
- Stranger Things – Season 5 (Netflix). Finally finished season 4 last week and jumped in straight in to season 5. Danette and I binged three episodes last night. Episodes 4, 5, and 6 are awesome!
- Sportsball. The Washington Wizards and Leeds United recent runs of form, the Wizards’ trade for Trae Young was was an interesting development for sure. The College Football Playoff games: the Miami Old Miss CFP game was awesome and I was happy to see all the JMU kids on Indiana involved with their stomping of the Oregon Ducks.
- Pomodoro timers. A coworker recommended the “Forest” app she uses to get work done. The app uses a concept called a “Pomodoro timer” which is a technique developed to gamify and manage long study sessions. The Pomodoro concept is basically a timer that structures your work or study session with 25 minute focus sessions followed by mandatory short breaks. The Forest app looked cool but it has a subscription model…so, yeah…that’s a hard no. Not paying for a dumb timer. But, I found a couple free ones online and dabbled with them during some drawing sessions. I like the concept so far (I’m using PomoFox now while I write this post, lol.)
- Ethel Cain’s latest album “Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You”. Pulled this album off some ‘best of 2025′ list somewhere and gave it a few spins while drawing in the shed and it really grabbed me. Super moody and atmospheric. My favorite tracks: “F*ck Me Eyes“, “Tempest” and “Dust Bowl“.
Honorable Mention:
- Smoked Cheddar Cheezits – I’m a huge fan of the Extra Toasty flavor but tried the Smoked Cheddar this week – thumbs up.
- Absolute Wonder Woman (DC) by Kelly Thompson and by Hayden Sherman. Picked it up a few weeks ago and and just started it yesterday. Decent so far.
*Concept I stole (like an artist) from Austin Kleon’s 10 good things blog posts
