The winter is finally showing signs of being over and things are warming up here in Virginia. I love this time of year – seeing little green things peeking up out of the dirt. I got my trees out of their winter beds, their buds are swelling and a few of the maples are leafing out.
I’ve been in the shed, most nights, working on the Wandering cities project. It’s going along ok. I think I am behind, somewhat, but I’m on a roll and really happy with the work I’m doing at the moment. I’m also getting that feeling of having my “chops” back – where I feel like I can draw anything and I’m not getting stuck as often.
The post picture is from a cool cabin we stayed in a few weekends back with some friends. It was a remote a-frame near Luray. The place was amazing looking but not super comfortable to stay in. But we still had a relaxing time.
Went to a Washington Spirit game with my brothers and niece on Friday. On the way out saw some secret service cops looking straight up into the night sky with binoculars looking for drones (I asked). Fun times!
A few good things:
- Reads: Finally working through the 2019 run of Criminal comics by Ed Brubaker and Sean Philips that has been sitting in my to-read pile in the shed (since 2019!) It’s great!!! Also read a few Pulitzer novels: “All the Light We Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr, (2015) and James by Percival Elliot (2025). Both were really good.
- TV: The Pitt (s2 – HBO), Shrinking (s3 – Apple TV), & A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (s1, HBO)
- Foqos App. Wow. I was looking for a way to stop doom scrolling on my phone and this has completely worked. I still pick the phone up mindlessly, but then realize there’s nothing to do, and go back to whatever I was doing. It probably deserves it’s own post. But thumbs up. I can maybe attribute some of the progress I’ve made recently on my drawing project to this app. It’s also made me look more closely at how I am using my phone. I still spend a lot of time on messaging and safari. I think my next thing is leaving the phone in a different room but man – even the thought of that makes me wince – what if I miss out on all the texting!!! ahhhhhhhhhhh so scary.
